On 21 October, T-Tech CEO Daniel Teacher attended Microsoft Frontier, where the focus was firmly on what comes next for workplace AI.

The event covered Copilot, AI agents, organisational data, security and Microsoft’s continued investment in UK cloud infrastructure. Beneath the product announcements was useful message: businesses now need to turn AI experiments into practical changes in how work gets done.

Microsoft frontier

From answering questions to completing work

One of the event demonstrations showed Copilot supporting a product launch. It helped turn information from meetings and business systems into an interactive planning tool. An agent then followed up with a colleague for missing information and prepared the final email once it arrived.

This shows where Microsoft believes workplace AI is heading. Rather than only answering a question or drafting a document, agents can take responsibility for parts of a process.

For businesses, the sensible starting point is not an agent for everything instead, finding a repeatable task where an agent can reduce manual follow ups or help people reach a decision faster. The task should have a clear owner and a result that can be measured.

Your organisational data matters frontier event

AI becomes more useful when it understands the context of your business.

During the event, Microsoft discussed Work IQ as a way for agents to use knowledge from Microsoft 365. This could include information held across emails, meetings, documents and SharePoint. The key point was that business data needs to be visible and understandable to the model.

That presents a challenge for many organisations. If information is duplicated, poorly structured or stored without clear permissions, adding AI will not solve the underlying problem.

Before introducing more advanced agents, businesses should understand where their important information lives, who can access it and whether it can be trusted. Good data management is becoming a practical part of AI readiness.

Governance cannot be added later

As agents take on more responsibility, businesses need to know what they are doing.

Microsoft placed a strong emphasis on observability. This means logging an agent’s activity, setting policies around the actions it can take and monitoring its behaviour. Security also needs to account for external threats and risks from within the organisation.

This is particularly important when an agent can access sensitive information or take action across business systems. Human approval should remain in place where decisions carry financial, operational or regulatory risk.

The aim is not to slow adoption, its to ensure AI can be used confidently and responsibly.

AI needs to prove its value

Another important discussion focused on cost. AI workloads use tokens, which carry a real cost, so organisations need to connect their investment to a clear business benefit. Microsoft suggested that this could appear through productivity gains, lower costs or business growth.

This moves the conversation beyond just providing licences. Businesses need to look at whether AI is improving a process, removing unnecessary work or helping people deliver a better service.

The event also highlighted the human side of adoption. Among employees already using AI at work, 71% said it had positively affected their work or career. However, more than a third were concerned about job security. Training and clear communication therefore matter just as much as the technology.

Building the right foundations

Microsoft also reaffirmed its $30 billion UK investment across cloud, AI infrastructure, skills and innovation. Its next generation datacentre in West London is now online, with another under construction in Newport.

For UK businesses, the opportunity is becoming more tangible. However, successful adoption will depend on choosing useful problems, preparing organisational data and putting the right controls in place.

At T-Tech, we see AI as part of a wider technology strategy, not a standalone tool. Copilot, agents and Azure can support better ways of working, but only when they are introduced with a clear purpose and supported by secure foundations.
